Sports
The island provides strong wind, perfect for sports like kiteboarding and windsurfing. Additionally, it offers tours to see dolphins and other marine life.
South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center
South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center offers:
- Guided Tour: Expert-led tours describe insight into the ecology of the local environment, particularly during the migration period.
- Boardwalk trails: The boardwalk trail in the centre spans a mile in a wetland for visitors to admire the picturesque plants and animals that live there. Along with migrating and wading birds, alligators and turtles can be viewed.
- Butterfly Garden: The garden is filled with plants that attract butterflies, which adds a variety of wildlife to encounter.
- Observation Tower: It is a five-story tower that provides a stunning view of the island’s interior and Laguna Madre, the Gulf of Mexico.

Sea Turtle Inc. is a rescue and rehabilitation centre for sea turtles. Tourists can learn and see sea turtles up close.
Port Isabel Lighthouse
Port Isabel, a historic lighthouse located nearby, provides stunning views and teaches visitors about the area’s maritime history.
